At the young age of twelve, Juliana Bakumenko knew that a career in fashion was what she wanted to devote her life to. From growing up outside the city of Washington DC, she has been surrounded by endless creativity and incredible artists throughout her life, encouraging her love of clothing and imagination in fashion. This led her to attend Parson's School of Design in New York City to study what she loved most. Immersing herself in the vibrant atmosphere of New York City reignited her creativity, and she found herself around people who were "invigorated by their work," which inspired her to get out of her comfort zone.
Juliana has excelled in her career within fashion, making significant contributions to prestigious labels and publishing houses. Having interned at renowned fashion houses such as Rodarte, Oscar de la Renta, and Carolina Herrera, she gained valuable insight into the inner workings of the fashion industry. Her experience at Harper's Bazaar further enriched her perspective, offering a unique glimpse into the editorial world of fashion. These experiences not only revealed her true passion but also paved the way for her to secure a coveted role at Proenza Schouler. There, Juliana is the Content Creation Coordinator and the talent behind sourcing items for photoshoots, producing photoshoots and in-house content, and editing content for the brand. During her time there, she has been able to be a part of the iconic Proenza Schouler Pamela Anderson Campaign for Spring/Summer 2024, which Juliana mentioned is her proudest accomplishment yet. Rightfully so, because this campaign was largely successful worldwide for its unparralleled vision. When asked about her anticipations for the future, Juliana expressed her excitement of fashion "being accessible to everyone", along with her hopes of more inclusivity on the runways. For Juliana, Proenza Schouler isn't just a label, but a place where she is highly valued for her responsibility, creativity, and future in fashion.
At the core of Juliana's journey is a significant inspiration that has shaped her perspective on fashion. When asked about her biggest influence, she immediately named Alexander McQueen. His ability to constantly innovate, inviting and creating something new, "more magical than minimal", resonated deeply with Juliana. This influence has been a driving force in her creativity and has left an undeniable effect on her approach to fashion.
Juliana's imagination and passion for fashion has evolved into a thriving career that continues to flourish. This is just the beginning of her career in the fashion industry, yet she has, no doubt, already lived up to the dreams of her twelve-year-old self.
